Job search with the applicant in mind

JobHero focuses on the job seeker.

I was contacted last week by a young man named Stefan Mancevski who is a co-founder of a new website for searching for a job. He wanted to tell me about the new company he was involved with, JobHero, which he said was designed to help the job seeker in a way no one else was doing. I was resistant at first. I told him my blog was focused toward the company and not applicants, but he was persuasive so I listened to him, and I am glad I did.

A different approach

I know there are a ton of sites that focus on finding jobs. Most however, seem to focus on the companies that are looking and not so much on the job seeker. JobHero focuses on the job seeker. Their goal is to help the job seeker become a better job seeker. They provide a way for the job seeker to organize his/her job search. As they say on their site they are “a web and mobile dashboard for organizing and optimizing your job search.”

I was impressed with the breadth of what they offer. According to their blog “Using JobHero, you can save jobs from across the web, search for new career opportunities, track your application progress, upload & tag documents, and set up reminders & deadlines all in one place.” No need to track things on multiple platforms or pieces of paper, or worse yet try to remember. As they say “we’re going to equip you with the tools employers have had for years and level the playing field by making you a better job seeker with our smart dashboard.”

What is in it for employers?

Since I have an employer focus I did ask Stefan was in this for employers, since that is what my readers would be interested in. He said “By helping people become better job seekers employers will get better candidates.” And he said “We are trying to put the human touch back in job search.” That right there is a major statement. One of the most frequent complaints of job seekers is how impersonal the whole process is. If we can help put the human back in “talent acquisition” (a term I really dislike. Talk about impersonal) then I am all for it.

Mike,
Thanks for posting this. I checked out the site and it is very simple and appears to offer a good dashboard for the job seeker. I will follow up on their career blog as well. I also recommend job seekers check out Liz Ryan at The Human Workplace for some salient advice on the search.

Job Hero seems like a good site to organize who you have applied to and who you still need to contact.
