Helping Fight Cancer by Wearing Jeans to Work

Lee JeansThere are few of us, if any, who have not been touched by cancer in our lives, either dealing with it personally or having a family member or friend with the disease. Fighting cancer is a cause that people are willing to rally around. So how would you like to help this cause and also give your employees an extra casual day? Well here is how to fight cancer by wearing jeans to work.

Lee National Denim Day 2013

Lee National Denim Day® is an annual fundraiser supported by Lee® Jeans that has raised more than $89 million for the fight against cancer. In order to join in the movement to rise above breast cancer, participants go casual for a cause and wear their jeans to work on Denim Day® in exchange for a $5 contribution to the fight against breast cancer. This year, Lee National Denim Day® is on Friday, October 4.

The concept started when several Lee® Jeans employees realized that each of them, in one form or another, had been touched by breast cancer – a statistic you’ll find in most workplaces and communities. Since then, Lee National Denim Day® has become one of the largest single-day fundraisers nationwide for the fight against breast cancer.

In the US, an estimated 234,580 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed this year. By participating in Lee National Denim Day®, you are supporting the American Cancer Society® and their breast cancer programs in order to find new ways to prevent, find and cure breast cancer while ensuring access to mammograms and offering free support to people affected by the disease.

Lee National Denim Day® Ambassador, Amy’s Story

We all have our own stories of someone battling cancer, sometimes winning, sometimes not. We all have our reasons for participating, but Amy gives me one more. As a former triathlete myself, the story of Amy hit home.

Courageous and empowered, Amy lives in Kansas, where she is currently battling breast cancer. As an avid runner and triathlete, Amy was stunned when she was diagnosed with stage III breast cancer at the age of forty. Beginning chemotherapy in February 2013, Amy continues to fight valiantly with the support of her friends and family. Although she sometimes feels overwhelmed, Amy is not letting cancer stand in the way of her training or her life. Amy attributes her persistence to her supportive friends, who go out of their way to help with her daily battles with cancer. Amy knows she couldn’t do it without her team by her side, and asks you to join a team today and make a difference in the fight against breast cancer with Lee® Jeans and the American Cancer Society®.

How can people get involved in Lee National Denim Day®?

You can get people involved by making this a company event.

  • Register a team at DenimDay.com today.
  • Wear jeans on Friday, October 4 in exchange for a $5 donation.
  • Make a donation of any amount at DenimDay.com today.

If you don’t already wear jeans then loosen your dress code for the day to allow employees to participate. Corporations are often portrayed in the press, humor, and the movies as being heartless entities. Here is an opportunity to show that corporations are made up of people who do have hearts and do care. So plan on participating in Lee National Denim Day® on October 4th, I will be.
