The Dr. Phil Personality Test As a Selection Tool

by Michael Haberman on March 31, 2008 · 0 comments

I received a copy of the Dr. Phil personality test supposedly given to Oprah. And as touted in the opening paragraphs “This is a real test given by the Human Relations Dept. at many of the major corporations today. It helps them get better insight concerning their employees and prospective employees.” Here is the link to the Snopes page that talks about it. You can also take it if you want. Dr. Phil Personality Test.

While it is cute, it is also relatively uninformative. It reminds me of the magic number problems that always picks the number you selected. If there is a major company HR department out there using this as a selection tool I think they had better rethink their strategy. I see a very difficult time in proving validity under the standards of the Uniform Guidelines On Selection Procedures. Though they may have reliablity down pretty good.

So anyone using this as a selection tool? Tempted? LOL
